History

eNAP held its first organizational meeting on April 27, 2009 in the Slashnet.org IRC channel #enap at 6:00 PM Pacific time with Ann Guiberson, Anne Jollimore, Donna Williams, Heather MacKenzie, Lionel Guerard, Paul Lamb and Paul McClintock attending.  While the group initially was conceived to be an electronic unit of the National Association of Parliamentarians, the NAP bylaws committee chairman said that an electronic unit was not possible under the current NAP bylaws at that time.  Thus eNAP organized as an independent Society on May 18, 2009, the Electronic Network of Advancing Parliamentarians, and worked for and waited for the NAP bylaws to be amended to allow for electronic units.

At the December 12, 2011 meeting of the Electronic Network of Advancing Parliamentarians, eNAP adopted bylaw amendments to create a transition to become an NAP unit under a new governance structure which allows for electronic units.  Our application for the NAP charter was submitted and approved on December 20, 2011.  We had 42 charter members.

On April 10, 2017, eNAP began the process of helping start an Electronic Association of NAP.  NAP’s charter for the Electronic Association of Parliamentarians (EAP) was issued in August 2017.

At the April 13, 2020 meeting of the Electronic Unit, the unit changed its name to the eNAP Unit in order to avoid confusion with the other electronic units that were founded after its chartering.

There were 15 members on January 1, 2010, and 29 on December 31, 2010.  By that latter date, six who had been members had been automatically dropped due to missing 4 consecutive regular meetings, and one other had been dropped and later reinstated.

In 2009, there were 7 attendees in April, 5 in May, 4 in June and August, 12 in October, and 10 in December.  There were 8 members when the society officially formed in May, 2009, and 15 on December 31, 2009.  By that latter date, three who had been members had been automatically dropped due to missing 4 consecutive regular meetings, so a total of 18 had been members at one time or another in 2009.

The educational programs for 2009 consisted of discussing various parliamentary situations.
